You may recall from an earlier post that the curriculum format has changed to CHOICE BASED art making.  The model is called TAB- Teaching for Artistic Behavior.  The Drawing, Architecture, and Fiber Arts Studios are available now.  Drawing is the first studio that is introduced using the TAB model, because after all, everything with art begins with a LINE.  There are a variety of supplies and materials in the drawing studio for making shapes, freehand designs, observational drawing, and how-to draw example pages.  There is an art library for everyone to use to spark ideas and inspiration.  New to the Drawing Studio are rubbing plates.  The plates are great for adding texture in the work such as a brick background, or to include botanical elements like leaves and flowers.  The most popular plates with kindergarten are the giant insects!  In the Fiber Arts studio are practice weaving materials for the youngest artists.  These are great for fine tuning motor skills.  3rd-5th are working on yarn weaving.  The architecture studio has modeling clay, soft sculpture building materials, and sets to practice attachment skills such as notching and clamping. Below are photos of students working with the materials in the studios.
ARCHITECTURE STUDIO:  Kindergarten using the Brain Flakes set which helps students learn "notching" and how two parts attach.  Of course it fine tunes motor skills too!

About Me

My photo
Michelle "Meche" Farah; I have a BFA in Painting and Illustration and Art History Minor from The Savannah College of Art and Design. Before I discovered a love to teach, I worked in interior design, and film production. My teaching certification is from Jacksonville University. This is my 13th year as a teacher and 4th year at Fort Caroline Middle. I teach Art History and sculpture. I am a professional decorative painting artist and a former board member of NeFAEA- Northeast Florida Art Educators Association. I am an active FAEA- Florida Art Education member and attend state conference every year. I have also attended nationals conference several times. My FAVORITE project is "Recycle-Transformation" which simply means going green and making old items new and appreciated. Our FUTURE is in our hands, I include recycled materials in student projects. In my art program students practice the disciplines of art history, art production, art aesthetics, and art criticism. It is not only important to make and learn about art but how to discuss it and bring value and meaning to it. Thanks for viewing our art blog, we are glad you stopped by!
