Hello! I'm Ms. Farah the new art teacher at Reynolds Lane! This is my 8th teaching year. I am on the Duval Art Teachers Association Board and actively participate in year round workshops and fundraisers which benefit The Leslie Beddard Scholarship. This allows our students to attend art camps and art teachers to attend professional development events, like state conference where we learn new techniques and processes to teach in the classroom.
This year DCPS has funded full-time art, music and physical education in every elementary school and has also increased art and music in the middle and high divisions. Because of this new status we as Resource teachers have a unique opportunity to provide your child with more consistent, in-depth instruction. We are hoping in time to be able establish clubs for music, PE, Media, art, and possibly others. In art students explore a wide range of art making processes including, but not limited to drawing, painting, ceramics, soft sculpture, printmaking, fiber arts, and assemblage. It is not only important for students to engage in art making but to learn how to examine, articulate, and critique. There will be days when classes are dedicated to art criticism and analysis. Art makes connections to social studies, math, reading, science and helps develop creative problem solving and critical thinking skills.
All grade levels will make a sketchbook which will also serve as a portfolio. It will be a place to practice new techniques and drawing, and to exhibit new skills such as weaving. These will be sent home at the end of the year with all other major projects. "Make and Take" projects will go home periodically as they are completed.
This ART SMART BLOG is a place to see project photos and find out what's happening in the art room at Reynolds Lane, and in the art community. The blogs will have production photos, a description of the project, and ART SMART vocabulary words. I hope you enjoy it and visit often. Your comments and feedback are welcome!
